PATTERN GRADING
Apparel pattern grading
Accurate Professional Pattern Grading Service
Every part of a garment pattern must be graded (increased or decreased) about a base sample size to achieve the proper fit for each size. The grading process can be quite challenging, as it requires careful consideration and analysis of the human body's growth patterns before they are applied to the garment's style.
Grading First Pattern
With our knowledge, based on long years of experience, we can grade your pattern to specific size ranges from a base size sample pattern.
We offer grading services for patterns ranging from simple to highly complex sizes. Using a base size pattern, we can generate an unlimited number of sizes that perfectly match your specifications. By applying your inputted digital pattern file, we follow your industry-standard grading rules, adhere to your established grading system, or assist you in creating your own grading specifications. We ensure accurate and timely grading of the patterns based on your requirements. You can submit your basic model designed on solid materials (such as cardboard or paper) or in electronic format, and we can grade your model to the desired sizes using a specified measurement chart, or we can help you with standard size data. The first step in any grading exercise is accurately measuring your base pattern. Often, key measurements such as bust, waist, and hip can be found on the pattern envelope.
**Grading from a First Pattern**
If you have an initial pattern and need additional sizes, we will grade all the necessary sizes according to your exact specifications, whether numeric or alphabetic. In case you do not have your own specifications, we can offer ours, ensuring they meet industry standards. It is also possible to develop new grading rules tailored to your needs. All patterns and grades will be returned for your approval before we create markers, should you require them. Your grading rules can be saved in our database for future use.
We can grade patterns to all sizes. Take your finished pattern and develop smaller and larger sizes by using your specific grading rules. We can assist you in establishing specifications for your product. Our services cover apparel grading, pattern grading, enlarging sizes, and decreasing sizes.
**What is Sewing Pattern Grading?**
Pattern grading is the process of creating a range of sizes for a single style. It involves scaling a pattern to a different size by adjusting key points based on established algorithms in the clothing industry. The goal of grading is to proportionally increase or decrease the size of a pattern while maintaining the shape, fit, balance, and style details of the original design. To ensure that a pattern fits various body types and sizes, each piece must be graded or systematically enlarged or reduced.
The process of resizing the initial pattern is called “grading.” Each company defines its grade specifications for each size, with size specifications varying slightly from one manufacturer to another. Grading is the method used to modify the sample size production pattern to create a complete size range. For example, if the sample size is a size 10, the patterns must be enlarged for sizes 12, 14, and 16, and reduced for sizes 8 and 6. Each company establishes predetermined grade specifications or rules. A typical missy manufacturer’s grading rules might require increments of one and a half inches in width and a quarter inch in length for each size. Nowadays, most manufacturers utilize CAD systems for sewing pattern grading.
The pattern maker guides a cursor around the edges of the sample pattern on a digitized table. At each key point, they press a button to record a grade point. Each point is cross-referenced using a grade-rule table stored in the computer, allowing for automatic enlargement or reduction of the pattern according to predetermined specifications. If the pattern was initially created using a computer, the data is already in the system and can be modified automatically. Pre-programmed grade rules for increasing or decreasing sizes are applied to the relevant areas of each grading location. The computer can then print out the pattern in each new size. While many small firms still use traditional grading methods, sewing pattern grading is increasingly becoming computerized. With a CAD system, patterns can be resized based on predetermined sizing increments (or “grade rules”). A computerized plotter can then print out the pattern in each size. Due to significant productivity gains, small to medium-sized manufacturers are beginning to acquire their own CAD systems for grading, or they may use an external grading service to perform this function.
